Kid's Class Teaching Methods
Innovative, safe, and modern teaching methods.
Our Children’s Classes have been carefully crafted through trial and error over the past 10 years. Professor Eddie Fyvie has dedicated his life to teaching and spreading Jiu-Jitsu to the masses. In the course of the past 10 years he has had the tremendous opportunity to learn from and study under some of the best instructors in the Jiu-Jitsu world, as well as top coaches in different athletic sports.
This training has been essential to the technical development of the classes and curriculum. However, the most important study has come from his work with Early Childhood Educators. In regards to teaching children specifically, this has had an unbelievable impact on structure, presentation, and behavior management. Jiu-Jitsu is an extremely complex and humbling Martial Art and if presented or practiced inefficiently, it can produce disastrous results. The complexity of Jiu-Jitsu leaves so many opportunities for the student to become frustrated and that can create a slow route towards the student wanting to quit. To combat this, we carefully monitor the child’s frustration and confusion levels and work to correct errors through Positive Praise Correction Methods. We believe that positivity is the key. We want to create “Teachable Moments” and an environment that will present situations that apply to everything they will face and deal with in their life.
At their young and fragile age, they are developing their personalities and their understanding of the world around them and the obstacles they will face. Positive praise, consistency, and a strong curriculum will develop them rapidly. Both of our kids classes are quite similar; however, you will witness slight differences in the presentation and technical movements from age to age. Below are some bullet points on specific teaching strategies and why we do some of the things we do!
